Outpatients Nurse

Outpatients are patients who are not staying in a hospital but have come in for a day for treatment or a check-up clinic.

Outpatients nurses have varied days working with the different patients who come in. Outpatients nurses may carry out a variety of procedures, for example changing dressings, administering medicines, checking the height and weight of patients.

The job will vary depending on which clinics are being run in the Outpatients Department that day. For example, the department may be running a specialised cystic fibrosis or diabetes clinic.

Patients at these clinics will have different needs and the outpatients nurse will need to help them in different ways. As well as providing medical treatment, outpatients nurses are there to provide support for the patients and their families.
