Cancer will affect you, or someone you know, during the course of your life. About one in three people in Britain get cancer, the majority of cancers occur in people over 65.
Over the last 20 years scientists and doctors have made great progress in beating cancer. Lots of people recover from cancer and go on to live normal lives.
Scientists and doctors are improving the ways that they detect cancer before the malignant cells have spread to other parts of the body. They are also trying to understand more about the way that cancer cells work so they can find new medicines to kill the cancer cells.
