Jobs in Biomedical Science

On this page, we have collected together all the jobs featured in our patient journeys.

The jobs are divided into sections:

  • Jobs that are primarly scientific (but which may involve some patient contact);
  • Jobs in nursing;
  • Jobs in Allied Health Professions - such as radiography, psychology, and other patient-facing careers;
  • Jobs that are vital to patient care but which don't require scientific or medical background;
  • And jobs for which you need a medical degree.

Scientific or mathematical jobs

Almost all of these jobs require some scientific background. For one of two - ie, Trials Assistant - no science degree is necessary, but it always helps to have some background in the area in which you are working.

Jobs in nursing

As with most careers, qualifying as a nurse can take you in many different directions. The jobs below showcase a few of the options.

Allied Health Professions

These jobs are the kind of jobs where you spend most of the day seeing peopole, rather than testing samples in a lab. Many require specific qualifications, some have less stringent requirements, but again some knowledge of the area you are working in is always usefl.

Jobs that require no science background

These jobs are not specifically scientific or medical, but are vital to the smooth running of the hospital and to making sure new treatments and drugs are safely tested.

Jobs in medicine

These jobs give you an idea of some of the specialised disciplines you could go into if you have completed a medical degree.
