Half Term Pod science shows

The opening film of the Centre of the Cell show

Monday 13th, Wednesday 15th and Friday 17th February 2012 only!

 

FREE interactive science shows.The show is aimed at people aged 9 and over, but all are welcome!  

This takes place inside our 16-cell embryo-shaped Pod, suspended over the laboratories of the Blizard Institute. Once inside, you will gather around a central 'nucleus' for a powerful audiovisual display, projected around the walls of the pod, which introduces cells - the building blocks of life. The nucleus opens to reveal touch-table games: you can try your hand at virtual experiments, heal extensive burns and have your cells counted. You also get to see real body parts and diagnose cancer using high-power microscopes.

There are timed Pod shows on Monday 13th, Wednesday 15th and Friday 17th February

2012 at 11:30am, 13:30 and 15:30.

Half Term Family Workshop - Vicious Venoms and Poisonous Parasites

Tuesday 14th and Thursday 16th February 2012 only!


There are 2 sessions on workshop days, a morning session and an afternoon session.  Booking is essential.  Each session consists of a Pod show and workshop, lasts approximately 2.5 hours and follows the same running order:

Part 1 - A Pod show

Running time = 1 hour

Running time = 1 hour

Vicious Venoms and Poisonous Parasites is a workshop about some of our Planet’s most dangerous diseases and powerful poisons and how they affect your body in the most gruesome and shocking ways!

There are 2 timed sessions each day on Tuesday 14th and Thursday 16th February ONLY - booking is essential .  

If you are more than 30 minutes late for your session your place will be lost and offered to any visitors on stand-by.  Please follow the “Book a visit” link below to reserve you places.

All ages are welcome but please be advised that some of the materials used are only suitable for children over the age of 2. Younger children will be given with alternative materials and activities within the same venue.

The Big Question Lecture Series

Spring 2012 lecture booking soon!

 

The Big Question Lecture Series gives you a chance to hear cell biology experts discuss their work and question them about it.

The Big Question Lecture series of four FREE seasonal lectures (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) will grab your attention whether you are fanatical about science or just curious about new discoveries and advances.  This series will give a glimpse into the world of cutting edge science that affects us all – cell biology.

Event format

Each Big Question lecture series event will comprise a 45-50 minute lecture. Afterwards there will be an opportunity to discuss the lecture with other visitors and scientists.  
The Centre of the Cell Pod will also be open for visitors until 8pm.

For Teachers and Students

These events can be used as CPD if you are a student or a teacher.  If you attend at least three of the four lectures each year you will be able to obtain a certificate.
