Family Science Day
Centre of the Cell's FREE Family Science Days give you the chance to: see a Pod show, experience an interactive Science show, design and make your very own fake cell, bacteria or virus or take part in Story Time. There really is something for the whole family to enjoy.
You can come along to:
1. A Pod show
Come and see a show inside our 16-cell embryo-shaped pod, suspended over the laboratories of the Blizard Institute. Once inside, you will gather around a central 'nucleus' for a powerful audiovisual display, projected around the walls of the pod, which introduces cells - the building blocks of life. The nucleus opens to reveal touch-table games: you can try your hand at virtual experiments, heal extensive burns and have your cells counted. You also get to see real body parts and diagnose cancer using high-power microscopes.
2. The Science Theatre Show "Snot Sick and Scabs"
If you have ever wondered what snot, sick or scabs are made of, why cheesy feet smell so bad or how your body fights off microscopic monsters when they manage to invade your body, then this show is for you! Come and take on the role of a Scientist and discover the world of cells, bacteria and viruses, make fake snot and see what the world would be like if bumblebees were the size of double-decker busses!
3. The Science busking inflatable
Be one of the first visitors to see inside our brand new inflatable learning bubble which will be jam-packed full of science busking activities and exciting things to do, such as designing your own fake bacteria or virus and even making one to take home with you!
4. Story Telling
For younger visitors, there will be storytelling sessions throughout the day inside our story inflatable of the popular children's book "Germ Zappers" by Professor Frances R. Balkwill, Mic Rolph.

Family Science days will run from 11am until 5pm on:
