BIG EDI Micro-Bursary

Centre of the Cell has received an early Christmas present in the form of a micro-bursary from the BIG network! Earlier in the year, the team applied for one of their Equality, Diversity and Inclusion micro-bursaries in order to help kick start our new project to build resources to help out SEN (Special Educational Needs) and EAL (English as an Additional Language) visitors, and we recently found out that our application was successful!

Our plan is to use this bursary to purchase a copy of the Widgit software so that we can start making a set of resources to be available to any visitors that would benefit from them. This software inputs a commonly used set of symbols alongside written text that can help people who have difficulty following spoken language for a variety of reasons to follow along with our shows and workshops at their own pace. We are also hoping to use any money left over to purchase other physical resources that will be made available to our audiences too, such as themed fidget toys and communication aids.

This is a new area for us, so we’re always looking for feedback on what we’re planning to do and advice on what else we could do. If you have any ideas for any resources that we should make with our new Widgit software, or other resources or training we should look into in general, please do contact us at info@centreofthecell.org! We’d love to hear all of your thoughts!
