Centre of the Cell reaches milestone of 200,000 participants
On the 25th November Centre of the Cell, Queen Mary University’s informal biomedical science learning centre, recorded 200,000 participants in its activities.
Over the past 10 years, young people, their teachers and carers have visited the award-winning STEM and Neuron Pods for digital interactive and topic-led science shows and workshops. Others have welcomed the Centre of the Cell team into their schools and community centres. Centre of the Cell’s Youth Member Scheme has helped hundreds of teenagers with summer schools, career advice and volunteering opportunities, many of whom are now studying science or medicine at university, including at Queen Mary.
Centre of the Cell Director Professor Frances Balkwill said ‘ Our aim has always been to have a positive impact on the education, career and health choices the children, young people and families that we work with. Reaching this milestone, just after our 10th birthday, with our visitor numbers increasing year on year, shows the continuing success of the project and reinforces our plans for even more innovative public engagement activities in the next decade.
