Week 12: Initial consultation at the clinic

Lindsay and Matt have a consultation at The Centre for Reproductive Medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital to see if fertility specialists can work out why they are having problems conceiving. To help them do this the staff at the centre would like Matt and Lindsay to have a few more tests.

Matt is asked to provide another semen sample which will be sent to the laboratory to be checked by the clinical embryologist.

Lindsay is seen by the gynaecologist who examines her and takes another blood sample which will be sent to the laboratory to look at her hormone levels. The nurse co-ordinator and ultrasound technician give Lindsay a pelvic ultrasound scan to look at her uterus and to check that there are no problems with her ovaries.

After her ultrasound scan, Lindsay has a test called a hysterosalpingogram. This is a type of x-ray, but instead of looking her bones it lets the gynaecologist and nurse co-ordinator look at her uterus and fallopian tubes to check that everything is alright.
