Week 26: Baseline scan
Lindsay comes into the clinic for an ultrasound scan. This is to check that the medicines in the nasal spray have been working and her menstrual cycle has been stopped. While the ultrasound technician scans her uterus, the gynaecologist checks that the lining of the uterus is thin and the ovaries are dormant. The scan shows that the medicines in the nasal spray have worked.
Lindsay goes to see the gynaecologist and nurse co-ordinator after her scan. They tell her she must continue using the nasal spray to control her own hormones, and they give her follicle stimulating hormones (FSH) which stimulates her ovaries to produce eggs. Lindsay will have to give herself a FSH injection every day for a week.
