Centre of the Cell Summer School
We are now accepting applications for the 2019 Centre of the Cell Summer School. For more information, read on. To apply, click here.
The Centre of the Cell Summer School is a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn some key skills of biomedical science, explore career options in the sector, and gain invaluable experience of life as a scientist or clinician.
Our 2019 Summer School will take place between Monday 29th of July and Friday 2nd of August. Youth Members currently in Year 12, and planning to enter higher education in 2020 or 2021, can apply for the chance to take part in a week of science and healthcare-related workshops, taster sessions and other activities, organised in partnership with the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London.
Previous Summer School activities have included: STEM careers talks from Queen Mary University of London scientists; a dentistry workshop; a surgical skills workshop; advice on university applications; and practical laboratory skills sessions.
Anyone in Year 12, and age 16 or over can apply. We encourage applications from young people based in London, especially those who live and/or go to school in our local boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham, and Hackney. The Summer School is not residential – students must to travel to and from the Blizard Institute each day. Lunch and travel costs (within London) will be met.
In order to apply, you must download and complete an application form, which includes a short personal statement and a teacher reference. You must complete all sections of the form for your application to be considered. You must also belong to Centre of the Cell’s Youth Membership Scheme – if you are not already a member, please include a contact & monitoring form with your application.
Completed applications should be sent to us by email to email@example.com, or by post addressed to
Centre of the Cell
Office 223 Garrod Building
Turner Street, London
Applications must be submitted by midnight on Monday 25th March 2019. Any applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.
Please note that we are expecting more applicants than there are places on the 2019 Summer School. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a short interview on Monday 15th of April. We will select 15 – 16 students on the basis of these interviews. If an applicant is invited for an interview but is unable to attend on the 15th of April we will aim to schedule an interview for them at another time however this is dependent on staff availability.
