Youth Membership Scheme funding from Aldgate and Allhallows Foundation

We are extremely excited to announce that we have secured generous three-year funding for our Youth Membership Scheme (YMS), from the prestigious Aldgate and Allhallows Foundation.

Centre of the Cell’s Youth Membership Scheme

The YMS was set up in response to demand from local schools and students for work experience and science career support. With previous support from the Aldgate and Allhallows Foundation between 2016 and 2019, the scheme grew in size and ambition, with now over 500 members aged 14-19.

The YMS offers a number of distinct areas of support; including work experience, volunteering opportunities, careers advice workshops and talks, study support, a Youth Forum and an intensive Summer School which provides experience in medicine and lab-based research. The next three years

The pandemic has ignited an interest in health sciences from young people, and we are perfectly placed to help them to take this interest forward into a future career. With this newly secured funding, we are now able to commit to doing this for at least three more years.

We will start off by recruiting a new cohort of young people onto the scheme. We’ll then be relaunching our Big Question lecture series in the Autumn, with plenty of volunteering opportunities for young people. Throughout the next academic year, we plan to offer online and in-person work experience opportunities, and are pleased to announce that we plan for the YMS Summer School to return in 2022.

We are very grateful to the Aldgate and Allhallows Foundation for their continued support, and can’t wait to get started on relaunching some of the key YMS activities!
