The Start of the Pain Journey

Alex Clark

This image shows a special nerve cell that helps your body feel pain. When something hot, sharp, or dangerous touches your skin, these cells send fast warning messages along their long extensions to your brain, helping you react quickly and stay safe. The bright green lines are the cell’s arms carrying these   signals. By growing and studying these cells in the lab, we can learn how pain works and help people who feel pain all the time.
