White Blood Cells in Colour

This image shows the diversity that exists within us all at the cellular level. Each object is a white blood cell in samples taken from injured patients as part of my research into how the immune system responds to major trauma. I spent a lot of time during my PhD looking at these cells during acquisition, and it always struck me that each one was distinct, with its own character – just like us.
