Home Education with Centre of the Cell

Centre of the Cell is unique informal learning experience, based inside a working biomedical research institute. Every year we reach over 20,000 young people, their educators, and their families with science shows and workshops that bring biology and medicine to life.

We offer over 16 distinct experiences for visitors, and our portfolio of shows and workshops covers ages 4-19. We welcome home-educator families and groups, and we find that Centre of the Cell is an ideal opportunity to give some real-world context and inspiration to biology and STEM subjects.

If you are the parent or carer of a home-educated student, or you’re a student yourself, there are four ways you can get involved with Centre of the Cell:

– Book a ticket for one of our dedicated home education sessions (see below)

– Arrange a group of home-educated students and book a term-time group session with our booking team (info@centreofthecell.org)

Visit Centre of the Cell during school holiday periods

– Join our Youth Membership Scheme (for young people aged 14-19yrs) and access work experience, volunteering opportunities, and more.

Planning your visit

Because Centre of the Cell is based within a working research institute at Queen Mary University of London we only welcome visitors with bookings. The Blizard Institute is not open to the general public and all visitors must be supervised.

For this reason you must book a ticket before attending an event. We kindly request that you arrive at least five minutes before the start time of an event and that you let us know if you are running late. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult (aged 16+), and we cannot accommodate pushchairs in our STEM Pod.
